SIALKOT, Aug 30: Three people, two of them brothers, were shot dead at Buddah Goraya-Uchey Kot village on Monday over rivalry. Reports said landlord Sultan's two sons - Dilawar and Ghulam Murtaza - were constructing a wall along with some labourers when seven of their rivals opened fire on them.

The two brothers and labourer Muhammad Riaz died on the spot. Satrah police have registered a case against three nominated suspects namely Mithu alias Kana, Shahid Latif alias Naai and Naseer Butt, and four others.

PASSPORTS: The Sialkot Regional Passport Office has yet to restart issuing passports to applicants due to, what officials claim, unavailability of blank copies. The people of the Sialkot and Narowal districts protested against inordinate delay in issuance of passports due to which businessmen have been facing a great deal of difficulty.

The regional passport office authorities have stopped the issuance of passports to the urgent and ordinary applicants. In a press release issued here on Monday, various trade bodies have expressed concern over the situation and urged the government to redress the public's grievances in this regard.

SECURITY: Sialkot Dry Port Collector Customs Naseer Azhar has banned the entry of all unconcerned persons in the dry port's sensitive places. He has also taken note of the rising number of the clearing agents in the dry port's export and import branches.

Reports said the official paid a surprise visit to the office on Monday and reshuffled all the officials of import and export sections. He directed the authorities concerned to adopt foolproof security measures in the dry port to avert any untoward incident.
