PML-N rejects Aziz's election

Published August 28, 2004

LAHORE, Aug 27: Punjab PML-N Vice-President Mian Javed Latif on Friday rejected the election of Shaukat Aziz as prime minister, saying the entire process was a farce.

At a news conference here, he said the performance of Mr Aziz as a finance minister was a total disappointment, and he would not be able to deliver as the country's chief executive.

He demanded that the president and the government should step down immediately and fresh election be held under the supervision of an interim national government. The National Assembly speaker, he said, should also resign.

The PML-N leader said opposition parties would continue to struggle for the restoration of democracy.
