KARACHI, Aug 27: A police inquiry team constituted to look into the alleged burning of two accused in custody at the Gizri police station has come to the conclusion that the victims had sought to immolate themselves after obtaining petrol from a motorcycle parked in the lock-up.

According to a press note issued by the police late on Friday night, Sindh Inspector General Syed Kamal Shah has suspended Kemari Town Investigation DSP Asghar Osman and Sub-Inspector Aurangzaib of the Korangi Industrial Area police station, investigation branch, in the light of the findings of the inquiry team.

The press note says the presence of a motorcycle in the lock-up, not permissible under the law, establishes dereliction of duty on the part of the station house officer of the Gizri police station, its head muharrir and sentries.
