Pakistan slams mosque attack

Published August 27, 2004

ISLAMABAD, Aug 26: Pakistan on Thursday condemned mortars' attack on a Kufa mosque in which more than 70 people died and hundreds were injured.

Foreign Office spokesman Masood said that Pakistan denounced bloodshed of Iraqis and had all sympathies with them as Iraqis were passing through a critical juncture of their history.

He said the desecration of holy places in Iraq had made every Muslim grieved. The sanctity of religious places, especially the shrine and mosque of Hazrat Ali (AS), was imperative for all and sundry.

He expressed the hope that Iraq would soon be out of this turmoil and become a peaceful and stable country. -APP
