HYDERABAD, Aug 26: District Nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman has said he has arranged more funds and asked union council nazims to propose development schemes of up to Rs1.3 million, instead of Rs0.9 million as advised earlier.
He was speaking at a prize distribution ceremony organized by the nazim of the City taluka's union council-10 at the Government Primary School, Liaquat University Hospital Colony, here on Wednesday.
Councillors and nazims of union councils of City and Latifabad talukas attended the ceremony. The district nazim praised union council nazims for their co-operation with the district government in carrying out development schemes.
He said he had fulfilled his promise with the nazims that they would be provided with equal share in development funds. Responding to demands of union council-10 nazim Dr Ayaz Ahmad Arain, the district nazim said he would convene a meeting in the first week of September to get problems of the council resolved.
WORKSHOP: A one-day orientation workshop on "Project to Improve Financial Reporting and Auditing (PIFRA)" was held at the district accounts office here on Wednesday.
Controller general of accounts Fazalur Rehman, who presided over the workshop, highlighted objectives of the system and measures taken for smooth transfer from the old accounting system to the new one.
He said the emphasis of the system was on computerization of the accounting system. He claimed that the Hyderabad district accounts office was the second accounts office in Pakistan and first in Sindh which had adopted the new system, beneficial for employees as well as the accounts office for keeping a complete computerized record and balance sheets. Later, he inaugurated the new system.
PRIZE DISTRIBUTION: District Nazim Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman has supported the Sindh government's decision to introduce English from class-I to V in government primary schools from the next year.
Speaking at the prize distribution ceremony organized by the union council-10, Hyderabad city taluka, at the government primary school Liaquat colony on Wednesday, he said Sindh has a strong base for its language and culture, therefore, there was no need to be scared of English.
Mr Makhdoom said he had proposed the introduction of English at the primary level but unfortunately Sindhi intellectuals not only opposed the proposal but labelled it dangerous for Sindhi language and culture.
He said the privileged class was enjoying benefits of quality English medium education through private schools but the underprivileged class was depending only on Sindhi medium government schools.
He said with the introduction of English in all government primary schools, quality education would be available for children of people with insufficient means. Expressing concern over the poor standard of education, the district nazim said teachers of rural areas were being deprived of house rent allowance.
