KARACHI, Aug 26: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan on Thursday ordered that the 872 vacant posts of house officers in various medical colleges in the province be allocated for private students doing post-graduation.

He directed the Finance department that instead of abolishing such vacant posts, the same should be earmarked for private post-graduate students. He issued the directive at a high-level meeting held at the Governor's House, in which the training of medical post-graduate students and their salaries were considered.

The meeting was attended by Senior Minister Syed Sardar Ahmed, Advisor (Health) Faisal Gabol, Principal Secretary Brig Akhtar Zamin, Health Secretary Ashiq Hussain Memon, Finance Secretary Israr Malik, vice-chancellors, Liaquat Medical University and DOW University of Health Sciences, and other officials.

On the governor's directive, the 735 vacant posts of house officers in Dow and Sindh medical colleges, 74 in the People's Medical College, Nawabshah, 63 in the Chandka Medical College, Larkana, will be allocated for the post-graduate students, while 276 vacant posts in other colleges will be earmarked for the post-graduate students in the LMC.

Dr Ibad said that emphasis was being laid on streamlining the medical education on modern lines, and bringing it at par with the international standards. In this regard, full attention was being paid to post-graduate education and training, he added. -APP
