India offers cheap raw materials

ISLAMABAD, Aug 25: The Synthetic and Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council (SRTEPC) of India has offered to supply a large variety of raw materials and man-made fibre for Pakistani products at cheap rates.

This was stated by SRTEPC Vice-Chairman Prem Malik in a meeting with officials of the Islamabad Chambers of Commerce and Industry here on Wednesday. Mr Prem is leading an eight-member textile delegation to hold discussion with Pakistani officials and stakeholders to promote bilateral trade between India and Pakistan.

He said that India could supply quality synthetic yarn, viscose filament, chemicals, dyes and other related materials to Pakistan's textile industry if the government of Pakistan would consider reviewing its negative list which banned the Indian companies from exporting them directly to Pakistani customers.

Mr Prem also offered to assist and collaborate with Pakistan following the removal of Multi-fibre Agreement (MFA), when the WTO regime was introduced in January 2005.

ICCI President Zubair Ahmed Malick welcomed the Indian delegation and appreciated their spirit of cooperation with Pakistan's textiles industry. Mr Malik points out that the process of composite dialogue started between Pakistan and India augurs well for the future of bilateral trade relations.

He also endorsed that the improved interaction between members of the business communities would strengthen the dialogue process and hold great promise and scope for mutually beneficial proposals for sustained trade in the future.

These measures, Mr Malik said, would provide the needed boost for exploring the export markets. He offered full support of the ICCI for improving bilateral trade relations.
