LAHORE, Aug 22: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi said on Sunday that his government was speedily completing communication and infrastructure development projects to create favourable conditions for the local and foreign investment.

He was talking to a delegation of investors from Singapore here. The delegation was led by the chief executive of an urban development and solid waste management company, Steven Lau.

The chief minister said the government had adopted the policy of increasing local and foreign investment to accelerate the speed of socio-economic progress and improve the living standard of people.

He said investment in urban development, power generation, housing, tourism and other sectors had been increased in the country. Strengthening the private sector and promoting public-private partnership in the national development projects was the cornerstone of the government's economic policy, he said.

The chief minister said the reform agenda and economic planning of the government had generated new opportunities for international trade and investment. All efforts of the government were aimed at achieving national economic progress and reduction in unemployment and poverty.

He said the province had adopted the policy of completing all projects within the stipulated period, maintaining quality and transparent utilization of state resources. Proper utilization of resources and financial management had left a positive impact on the performance of public sector organizations, he said.

He said huge funds had been allocated for improving the sewerage and sanitation system. All shortcomings relating to health and sanitation were being removed in Lahore and other big cities in the province.

The chief minister said several solid waste management projects had been completed in Lahore which would help provide better sanitation and health facilities to the citizens.
