ISLAMABAD, May 23: Ten additional judges of the Lahore High Court, whose tenure was extended for one month by the President, are likely to be confirmed as permanent judges.

An official concerned told Dawn that a summery had been sent to the president. The constitutional consultees, have reportedly approved all names of additional judges for confirmation.

The judges are Justice Nasira Iqbal, Justice Mansoor Ahmad, Justice Tanvir Bashir Ansari, Justice Muhammad Sayeed Akhtar, Justice Muhammad Farrukh Mahmud, Justice Muhammad Sair Ali, Justice Mian Hamid Farooq, Justice Abdul Shakoor Paracha, Justice Muhammad Khalid Alvi, and Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry.

President Pervez Musharraf had extended the tenure of judges for one month against the recommendation of Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court, seeking a one-year extension.

The President had expressed his displeasure over the recommendations of LHC Chief Justice, seeking extension of 10 additional judges without giving any reasons, and had directed that the case for “confirmation or non-confirmation” of the judges concerned should be initiated.
