KARACHI, Aug 19: Differences have cropped up between government directors over nomination of next chairman of the Fishermen Cooperative Society.

The main reason for the postponement of the Aug 10 meeting of the 15-member board of directors of the society wherein the government commands a majority of eight members had been a serious rift between high-ups of provincial authorities over the issue of nomination.

Although seven elected directors of the society representing fishermen communities had indicated that instead of appointing any political figure, they would be ready to accept the nomination of government director, Shujaat Ali Qarni as next chairman of the society

However, as the government wants an amendment to its original list of eight directors and is considering dropping two members, there persists a total confusion.

Two separate notifications were issued recently by two different authorities. The sources said that abrupt postponement of the March 10 meeting had raised many eyebrows as no date has been fixed for the next meeting of the board.
