TOBA TEK SINGH, Aug 13: More than 30,000 acres of farmland in the district has come under salinity and water-logging.
This was given out by District Nazim Chaudhry Muhammad Ashfaq in a seminar which was held here on Friday under the auspices of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission.
The District Nazim said that nuclear institute of agriculture and bio-technology, Faisalabad, had recently started a useful programme to make cultivable hundreds of acres of farmland of Toba Tek Singh, Lodhran and Shorkot (Jhang) areas.
He claimed that farmers followed the advise of agri-scientists in this regard had succeeded in raising their per acre yield. Among the speakers were also the agri-scientists of Lahore and Faisalabad - Dr Tariq Mahmood, Dr Muhammad Boota, Dr Tariq Mehmood Chaudhry, Dr Izhar, Dr Yousaf and Dr Shehnaz Adeeb.
UPGRADATION: The Fesco has decided to upgrade the 66KV grid stations of Toba Tek Singh and Pirmahal to 132KV during the current financial year. This was stated by Fesco deputy manager Chaudhry Muhammad Arif while talking to newsmen here on Friday.
He said that an estimated sum of Rs1 billion would be spent on this project and after its completion the citizens of Toba Tek Singh and Pirmahal would get rid of the low voltage problem.
He claimed that the transformer supplying electricity to Rajana town and surrounding areas would also be upgraded. At least Rs15 million had also been approved for establishing 10 feeders for Risala, Waroana, Jakhra, Railway Road, Kamalia, and Pirmahal to address the problem of low voltage, he added.
OFFICE: The office of the employees old age benefit will be closed in Toba Tek Singh. A source disclosed on Friday that the employees would be asked to contact to its Jhang office for their all matters in future.
