KARACHI, Aug 10: Renowned French scientist Prof Alain Krief has appreciated measures taken by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan in the field of Science and Technology.

Speaking at Hussain Ebrahim Jamal (HEJ) Research Institute of Chemistry at the University of Karachi on Tuesday, he said positive scientific progress in Pakistan as well as research activities, distinctively in natural product chemistry and chemical sciences at the HEJ were due to tremendous efforts of the in-charge, Minister for Science and Technology, Prof Attaur Rehman.

Several new laboratories with modern scientific tools and apparatus, such as enzyme inhibition, plant and animal cell culture and plant micro-propagation, computer aided molecular modelling, bio-informatics, anti-tumour and radio labelling laboratories had made the HEJ one of the best research institute for Chemistry in the world, he observed.

He maintained that one of the most excellent attributes of the HEJ was that it had qualified and skilled teaching and research faculty members and capable students. Prof Krief also said that he was helping Pakistani scientists of the HEJ to establish a world class synthetic chemistry laboratory at the HEJ.

Discussing the political situation of the world, he said that political stability was necessary for the development of any country and nation, without which, science could not serve the betterment of humanity. -PPI
