BAHAWALPUR, Aug 9: Scores of mud and 'pucca' houses in city's Mohajir and Bhutta colonies were damaged due to heavy rain on Monday and a number of inmates injured in consequence.

According to BVH's emergency ward, several injured persons were brought for treatment. They sustained injuries in the collapse of walls, roofs of many houses, and road accidents. Besides, a number of people were wounded due to electric shock.

As per Met office, Bahawalpur received 108 millimetre rain on Monday. The roads and streets were flooded with rainwater while the people experienced long-hour of power breakdowns. Rain was also reported in Yazman and Cholistan areas.

PROTEST: The district council on Monday through a resolution protested with the Punjab government for opening the executive engineer office, Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), in Rahim Yar Khan instead of Bahawalpur.

The resolution also protested against the handing over of the irrigation water system control to Multan instead of Bahawalpur.

TAKEN AWAY: Unknown thieves took away motorcycles of Iqbal and Ilyas from Cantonment and Civil Lines areas here on Monday. Police have registered separate cases.
