HARIPUR, Aug 9: The Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) of Haripur on Friday cancelled an agreement, which it had signed with a private security agency two years back , for clearing encroachments and pushcarts from the main bazaar and adjoining roads, official sources said.

The TMA had devised a plan of handing over the charge of the main bazaar, from main chowk to Sheranwala gate, to a private security agency, which was then assigned the task of making the specific limits of main bazaar clear of every kind of encroachments and pushcarts. For this purpose the TMA had paid the said agency Rs30,000 per month.

But the security guards were found involved in encouraging encroachment and taking bribes from the pushcart owners for allowing them to operate in the limits of main bazaar, the TMA sources said.

As the purpose of hiring security agency did not serve in a better way the TMA decided to cancel this agreement, the official said, adding that the TMA would now revive old system of controlling encroachment. While an employee of the security agency held the TMA responsible for violating the rules. He said that the favourites of nazim were to be blamed.
