LAHORE, Aug 8: Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool has supervized a comprehensive revision of 50 courses in engineering, medicine, science, information technology , social sciences and arts by Inter-University Faculty Boards of 11 universities, constituted by the Punjab governor early this year.

The governor also held a two-day meeting for reviewing the new curricula at the Governor's House on Friday and Saturday. The governor directed all the universities to circulate the updated curricula among other universities for modifications, approval and implementation from the next academic session, which begins next month.

Throughout the extensive meetings, the governor stressed that the universities should start a semester system spanning three to four years to meet the international standards of quality.

Talking to Dawn after concluding the meetings on Saturday, the governor said all the 11 universities had built the revised courses on the basis of Higher Education Commission directions and achieved quality.

He said the universities had also introduced new courses for optimum utilization of the enhanced time-span of courses. Answering a question about the disparity of degree courses between universities and their affiliated and mofussil colleges, the governor said its next effort would be directed at updating curricula and ensuring their implementation at school and college level.

"We will continue to make gradual efforts to update curricula and ensure their implementation at all levels for strengthening the education system." Earlier, speaking to conveners of 24 IUFBs, Mr Maqbool stressed that the universities should focus on enhancing students' communication skills.
