LAHORE, Aug 5: Jamaatud Daawa chief Hafiz Mohammad Saeed has called for an assessment of the Kargil issue by the military and political leadership and said that both sides should accept their mistakes in handling the affair.

Talking to reporters at his residence here on Thursday, he said that India had benefited more from the Kargil conflict. He told a questioner that Pakistan had suffered casualties on the Kargil heights during retreat.

Answering a question, he said the issue of Kashmir could not be settled through dialogue because New Delhi was still declaring that the Valley was a part of India.

Replying to a query, Hafiz Saeed said he did not believe that the Mujahideen were involved in suicide bombing in Muslim countries. He said that agents of the US, Israel and India who wanted to destabilize Muslim states were responsible for acts of sabotage and subversion.

But he regretted that Mujahideen for being blamed for these sabotage activities. He told a questioner that the army operation in Wana and other areas of the country were against national interests. "The people who are sincere to Pakistan are being rounded up at the behest of the US during the operations."
