BAHAWALPUR, Aug 3: An under-trial bank dacoity accused managed to get job in the National Highway and Motorway Police few months ago, it is learnt here on Tuesday.

The fraudulent act came to light when accused Faisal Shahzad Goraya's uncle produced his fake death certificate in a Karachi court and the judge contacted a union council Nazim in Bahawalpur to check veracity of the claim.

Reports said three youths Bilal, Faisal Goraya and Kashif alias Kashi were found involved in dacoity six months ago. Bilal was shot dead in an encounter with police while Kashif fled. Faisal, who was arrested by the police, was later set on bail by a sessions court in Karachi.

Thereafter, he came to Bahawalpur and stayed away from court proceedings for two to three months. Meanwhile, his uncle went to Karachi and produced his fake death certificate in the sessions court. The judge sent the certificate for verification to Union Council V Nazim (Bahawalpur) Sheikh Azizur Rahman.

During investigation, it was learnt that the alleged dacoit was not only alive, but also serving the NH&MW and enjoying a luxurious life. When contacted, the Nazim said the application submitted by Faisal's uncle was attested by councillor Mehtab Kausar, who was declared elected in the by election about six months ago.

According to bylaws, he said, the whole responsibility about the record of deaths and births laid with the applicant and the attestation councillor. However, the UC Nazim admitted that the death certificate was issued with his signature and the union council seal. The Nazim has yet to reply to the letter of the district and sessions judge.

CYCLE-RICKSHAWS: In pursuance of the Lahore High Court local bench judgment, cycle-rickshaws are being run on roads in the district and some of its towns. The number of cycle-rickshaws on roads is expected to increase gradually.
