BADIN, Aug 2: Federal Education Minister Zobaida Jalal has called for improving the standard of education on war-footings.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the community technology learning centre here on Monday, she said funds were available for education but there was a need of proper implementation of the national education policy.

She said trained teaches were necessary for quality education as higher education was essential for getting immediate results in the national construction. The minister said some five million children were out of schools in the country and they needed proper attention as today's children would be the leaders of tomorrow.

She advised the provinces not to prepare policies in haphazard manner. She lauded the efforts of the National Commission on Human Development in promotion of universal primary education (UPE) literacy programme under which more than 5,800 children had so far been enrolled in the Badin district only.

She said 450 non-formal basic schools would be opened and 75 schools would be upgraded to middle schools level in the district. Dr Naseem Ashraf, minister for State, and chairman NCHD appreciated the efforts of the commission's staff and congratulated them on achieving better results.

He said the establishment of information communication training centre in the district would help achieve over all development. MPA Ali Bux Shah, District Nazim Kamal Chang, DCO Mumtaz Shah and Zahid Abbassi spoke on the occasion.

PUBLIC MEETING: Speaking at a public meeting, the federal minister, said the government was aware of the problems of the district. She asked victims of the last year's rains to remain patient, government would not leave them alone. She assured them that she would take up the matter of agricultural package with the president.
