LAHORE, July 30: SSP (Investigation) Chaudhry Shafqaat Ahmed said on Friday that police had found certain clues to the murderers of PML-N leader Pir Binyamin Rizvi.

He told newsmen that two accused had already been arrested and on their information a police team was sent to Mandi Bahauddin to arrest the main culprit.

The SSP said the station house officers were not performing their duties up to the mark creating problems for the people to get justice. He said they (SHOs) should improve their performance to maintain law and order in the city.

Answering a question, Mr Ahmed said that people involved in two gang rapes (Kahna and Shahdara) had been identified and would be arrested soon. He said the investigation wing busted four members of a gang involved in various dacoities and house robberies in the city and recovered Rs2.9 million, gold ornaments, foreign currency worth millions of rupees and weapons from their possession.

He said that more arrests were expected on their information. Meanwhile, SP (Investigation) Cantonment Habib Imtiaz claimed to have busted Zubair alias Zubairi gang of kidnappers and arrested its four members.

He said that the gang had kidnapped a minor, Raza Jumshaid, 6, from Kasur and taken Rs1 million as ransom from his family. The police recovered Rs70,000 out of the total ransom money, he added. The arrested were identified as Ashiq Ali, Muhammad Rafiq, Muhammad Nawaz and Shahid Ali. However, Zubairi (ring learder) is at large.
