PESHAWAR, July 29: The Peshawar High Court on Thursday directed the ministry of interior to shift an elderly Palestinian from the Adiala prison to Peshawar. A two-member bench comprising Justice Shehzad Akber Khan and Justice Qaim Jan Khan ordered that 80-year-old Yousaf bin Yousaf should be provided medical treatment here.

The bench was hearing a contempt of court petition against the detention of foreigners. The petition was filed by a former MNA, Jawed Ibraheem Paracha. Deputy Attorney-General Hamid Farooq Durrani and officials from the ministry of interior and the ministry of foreign affairs, Salahuddin Khan and Ather Khan, informed the bench about the cases of the detainees.

The officials stated that they had contacted the Palestinian embassy about documents of Yousaf Bin Yousaf, but the embassy informed them that the travel documents could only be prepared for a Palestinian living in Palestine.

They added that they had now contacted the UNHCR for sending him to a third country. Jawed Ibraheem Paracha stated that Yousaf Bin Yousaf was an old man who had been suffering from different ailments. He requested the bench to shift him to Peshawar and he would look after him here on his own expenses.

About the other detainees the officials informed the bench that Yousaf Ali Mohammad, who was holding a British passport, was deported to the UK on July 14. About two Tanzanians, Musa Mohammad and Talha Yalghan, the bench was informed that the honorary consulate of Tanzania in Karachi was contacted by the Foreign Office for preparing the travel documents of the two detainees.
