TOBA TEK SINGH, July 29: Differences between District Nazim Chaudhry Muhammad Ashfaq and Gojra Tehsil Nazim Chaudhry Khalid Javed Warriach have deepened, it is learnt here on Thursday.

The treasury benches at a recently held district council's meeting charged the tehsil Nazim with corruption and ignoring the local government's instructions. The house discussed alleged refusal of the tehsil Nazim to return Rs2.3 million of the last fiscal and decided to communicate it to the provincial government to direct the Gojra Nazim to return the lapsed funds.

Chaudhry Khalid is the younger brother of Gojra MNA Chaudhry Amjad Ali Warriach, who was defeated by the Nazim for the top slot in the district. During a meeting of the district advisory committee few months ago, the Nazim informed the participants that the Kamalia and Toba Tek Singh tehsil Nazims had returned the lapsed funds to the district government, but the Gojra tehsil municipal administration had yet to return the lapsed amount to be spent on development.

However, the tehsil Nazim opposed the district Nazim, accusing him of patronizing his (tehsil Nazim's) opponents. He asked how could he cooperate with the district government under such circumstances.

The ruling group demanded during the meeting that the district government re-auctioned the transfer of property fee contract of the Gojra TMA and hold an inquiry into alleged appropriation of Rs2 million in the auctioning of the first contract. The officials also claimed that the Gojra TMA was illegally constructing a recreational park on the land of the local government.
