SHIKARPUR, July 29: Activists of political, religious, social and city organizations observed a token hunger strike here on Thursday against what they called failure of police to secure the release of 11 people kidnapped some five months back.

Sardar Wahid Bux Bhayo (PPP-P), Syed Abdul Razzaq (PPP-SB), Naveed Alam Abro (city task force), Qasim Pathan (Mehran Teachers Association), Hadi Bux (PML-N) and 50 others participated in the hunger strike.

Speaking on the occasion, they expressed their concern over an inordinate delay in the recovery of captives. They threatened to launch a protest drive if the victims were not freed within seven days.

KILLED: A man, Ghulam Murtaza Mahar, was killed when 15 armed men attacked Habibkot village on Thursday. The assailants escaped when the villagers retaliated. Shahban Mahar, the father of the deceased, lodged an FIR with the Lakhi Ghulam Shah police against Ali Khan, Mohammad Khan, Nandho, Nadar, Kazim, Ghulam Nabi, Gul Mohammad, Anwar, Nizam and six others, all Jatoi by caste.
