LAHORE, July 29: The Parks and Horticulture Authority will develop a 'History Street' for highlighting the historic buildings in the Walled City while the City District Government will restore the existing city gates.

Chief Secretary Kamran Rasul was informed about the plan by Parks and Horticulture Authority Director-General Shabbir Ahmad and District Coordination Officer Khalid Sultan during a briefing here on Thursday. Lahore Development Authority Director-General Akhlaq Tarar was also present on the occasion.

The PHA director-general said that plan was aimed at attracting tourists. The chief secretary was informed that half of the 12 Walled City gates had disappeared with the passage of time.

The 12 gates included Bhati, Taxali, Roshnai, Masti, Khizri (Sheranwala), Yakki, Delhi, Akbari, Mochi, Shahalmi and Lohari gates. The existing ones had been vandalised and were threatened with extinction.

The chief secretary directed the district coordination officer to arrange a detailed survey of the gates for assessment as to which of these could be rehabilitated.
