KARACHI, July 29: Sindh governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has said that the government efforts to eliminate crime from society cannot bear fruit without the cooperation of people and communities.

Taking serious notice of reports about the activities of extortionists in some parts of the city and interior of the province, the governor directed the SHOs, TPOs, and DPOs to ensure elimination of crimes in their respective jurisdictions.

He advised the people that if they had knowledge about elements indulging in extortion, they should drop the information at the Governor's House and their identity would be kept secret and even then if the authorities failed to take notice, its information may be passed on to him through web-site www.governorsindh.gov.pk or to principal secretary or military secretary to governor.

He said that the government was taking necessary measures to ensure life and property of people and for continuation of industrial activities uninterrupted. The governor, who had issued the first order of anti-extortion ordinance after taking over the office, stressed the need for taking effective measures, particularly in industrial areas and business centres.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Fleet Commander Vice Admiral Mohammad Haroon on Thursday called on the Governor at the governor's House and remained with him for some time.
