SIALKOT, July 26: A police constable was killed while an ASI and another constable sustained injuries in an 'encounter' here on late Sunday night at Pannu Attari village, Begowala (Daska tehsil).

On a tip off, the Begowala police raided a festival at Pannu Attari and arrested a proclaimed offender Faisal alias Cheeta. On this, his accomplices opened fire on the raiding party and succeeded in getting him released from the police custody.

As a result, Muhammad Arshad was killed while ASI Rana Aslam and constable Yusaf Ghuman sustained injuries. The injured policemen were shifted from the Daska civil hospital to the DHQ hospital due to their critical condition.

LOANS: The National Bank of Pakistan has started issuing soft-term loans under its 'Saibaan scheme' to the district government employees and businessmen for purchasing or renovating their homes.

Talking to newsmen here on Monday, NBP regional chief (operations) Shahid Iqbal Dar and regional chief (finance) Chaudhry Farman Ali said all applications to this effect would be processed within a stipulated period of three weeks on nominal mark-up ratio. They said the scheme would soon be extended to general public in the second phase.

SHOT DEAD: A man was shot dead by three people here on late Sunday night at Dugri Kalan village, Daska tehsil. Muhammad Riaz, son of a local numberdar Muhammad Iqbal, was present at his house when three unidentified men came and shot him dead. Satrah police have registered a case.
