ISLAMABAD, July 23: The National Assembly on Friday adopted a unanimous resolution praising the International Court of Justice's verdict that declared Israel's move to erect a fence around Gaza areas illegal and urged the United Nations to ensure the implementation of the General Assembly's unanimous resolution and ICJ's ruling on dismantling the same.

The resolution was moved by Pakistan Muslim League's (Nawaz) Sahibzada Fazle Karim and was passed after suspension of relevant rules to allow its tabling in the house.

The resolution said: "The ICJ's verdict of rejecting Israel's construction of fencing wall was greatly appreciable and the UN General Assembly's unanimous resolution clearly vindicated that Israel's action along the Gaza strip was illegal and it ought to be dismantled".

Earlier, the lower house was told that an FIR had been lodged against the deputy secretary for environment, Asif Rehman, for misbehaving with a woman journalist but he had not been suspended from service as had been promised by the minister of state for environment Maj Tahir Iqbal on the floor of the senate.

The minister of state had, on the advice of federal information minister, committed in the senate during the current session that the official concerned would immediately be suspended. The matter was raised by a number of members from the treasury benches through a call-attention notice.

One of the co-mover of the call-attention notice, Hajra Tariq Aziz, said: "It was promised ... the other day that the said official would be immediately suspended but that has not happened and the legislators won't be satisfied until the initiation of a drastic action against the official concerned."

Other movers included, Kashmala Tariq, Gule Farkhanda, Gayan Chand Singh and Riaz Fatyana. The house also discussed the issue of increasing the cotton support price this year from Rs850 to Rs925 per 40kg.

Legislators asked the government to instruct the TCP to lift the entire cotton crop if the commodity's open market price dropped below the official price. During the brief legislative business, a report of the standing committee a bill was tabled to amend the Code of Civil Procedure 1908 on behalf of the relevant committee.

Similarly, a report of the standing committee on the bill to amend the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997, the annual report (2003) of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan, the statement of accounts of the commission, certified by auditors were also tabled during the day's session.
