SWABI: Water crisis in Gadoon

Published July 24, 2004

SWABI, July 23: People of Gadoon are facing a severe shortage of drinking water. After the leakage of the sole supply pipeline at many places, women in many areas have to bring water from far off places in pitchers.

Some people use donkeys to carry water. People of Takeel village have to use water from a well, though it is unfit for human consumption. The people said that during the poppy cultivation, funds had been allocated for water supply schemes, but the money went to the pockets of some influential people.

Politicians had also made promises during elections, but to no avail, they said and demanded that the provincial governments should make proper arrangement for water supply to save people from contaminated water.
