LARKANA, May 22: The Larkana police in an armed encounter with dacoits killed five dacoits including their leader, Durro Mughiri, in the limits of the Nasirabad police station on late Tuesday night. Two of the dacoits had been killed earlier on Tuesday.
The bodies of all seven dacoits have been identified at the Wagan police station and have been picked up by their relatives.
The dacoits have been identified as Durro Mughiri, Mukhtiar Mughiri alias Papoo, Nadir Mughiri, Ghulam Abbas Mughiri, M. Mughiri, Haider Tunio alias Haidroo, and Wasayo Kharal.
Addressing a news conference on Wednesday, the Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP), Sukkur region, Nayyar Husnain Haider said that with the killing of the seven dacoits almost the entire gang had been eliminated.
He said that the gang had been operating in Larkana, Dadu, and Naushahro Feroz since the last 10 years. Their criminal record indicated that they were involved in kidnapping for ransom, highway robberies, murders, and police encounters.
He said the Sindh governor, Mohammedmian Soomro, had announced that Rs300,000 was to be given to the family of the two ASIs, a head constable, and a private bodyguard of the TPO, Kambar, who had been killed during the encounter.
