KARACHI, July 16: Judge Syed Aley Maqbool Rizvi of the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Karachi on Friday gave investigating officers a last chance for submitting final charge sheets against the activists of Jundullah , arrested in various cases of killings and bomb blasts.

"The prayer for grant of time to submit challan is granted for 10 days only as last chance, and no further extension will be allowed," the court ordered, directing the IOs to submit the same on July 26.

Jundullah's activists Attaur Rehman alias Ibrahim, Shahzad Ahmed Bajwa, Yaqoob Saeed, Uzair Ahmed, Shoaib Siddiqui, Danish Inam, Najeebullah, Khurrum Saifullah, Shahzad Mukhtar, Dr Akmal Waheed and Dr Arshad Waheed were produced on court orders. Family members of all accused were also present on the occasion.

Charge sheets against the 11 activists of Jundullah were to be submitted by IOs on July 3, with the court sending all accused except Dr Akmal Waheed and Dr Arshad Waheed to jail, and directing IOs to submit charge sheets against them.

The application was filed by Special Public Prosecutor Maula Bux Bhatti, seeking a 14-day extension in the date for submitting the charge sheets. Defence counsels Nihal Hashmi and Mushtaq Ahmed opposed the public prosecutor's request, and contended that the time for submitting challan against the accused had been expired.

They also argued that the investigation had to submit the challan against the accused within 30 days. An application was also filed against extension for date in this regard.

On the police report under 497 (2) CrPC, seeking release of Dr Akmal Waheed and Dr Arshad Waheed in the corps commander motorcade and Rangers mobile van attack cases, the court observed that according to the application under section 497 (2), it was for the trial court to decide the fate of the accused after submission of final challan. - PPI
