GUJRANWALA, July 14: The city tehsil council razed 20 shops here on Wednesday on the Sialkot Road By-pass. Reports said the shops were constructed by land grabbers on the state land.

The tehsil council had started collection of rent from the shopkeepers but City Nazim Babu Javed Ahmad ordered to bulldoze the shops and release the state land from grabbers.

PROTEST: Factory workers will take out a protest procession against the privatization of social security system on July 21 on the GT Road. At a meeting held here on Wednesday, the participants said they would also set up hunger strike camps. The meeting decided that labour leaders would court arrest if the police arrested them.

ACCIDENT: A man was killed while four members of his family sustained injuries in a bus-car collision here on Wednesday on the Sialkot Road. Reports said Tahir along with his family was going from Sialkot to Lahore.

Near the Upper Chenab Canal bridge at Farid Town, the car collided head-on with a bus. As a result, Tahir died on the spot while Aniq, Ibrar, Umar and Arjamand sustained injuries.

ELECTROCUTED: A mechanic was electrocuted here on Wednesday on the GT Road. Reports said Qamer Zaman was welding the iron frame of a publicity board when he received an electric shock and died on way to the DHQ hospital.
