KARACHI, July 14: Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has said that a number of roads are being constructed in Thar to bring about a revolution in the life of local people.

Talking to a seven-member delegation of Pakistan Administrative Staff College, the CM said that because of the initiative taken by President Musharraf, people of Thar would be able to get the facilities of roads and drinking water.

Members of the delegation attending the 81st National Management Course called on the chief minister here on Wednesday and told him that they had visited Thar from July 10 to 13 to take stock of development work there.

They said that they had a meeting with district nazims of Mirpurkhas and Tharparkar to discuss various development projects. Besides, they added, they visited Khokhrapar, Zero Point, Emperor Akbar's birthplace in Umerkot, museum, Bhodesar Mosque in Nagarparkar, Marvi's village, Naukot and other areas, and attended a briefing by the director general of mines.

Dr Arbab told the delegation that the works department had been directed to ensure construction of drains along side the roads. He also stressed the need for improvement in the railway system in Thar area.

The meeting was also attended by Additional Chief Secretary (Development) Ghulam Sarwar Khehro, chief mechanical engineer of railways, DG of foreign office, director inspection and internal audit, and income tax commissioner.

Meanwhile, senior politician and a former care-taker prime minister Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi, along with provincial Agriculture Minister Arif Jatoi, Murtaza Jatoi, Aqib Khan Jatoi, Naimur Rehman and Allah Bachayo Memon, called on Arbab Rahim at CM's House on Wednesday.

According to official sources, issues relating to political scenario and law and order in Sindh came under discussion. Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi assured Dr Arbab of his all-out cooperation, the sources added.

Later, City Nazim Naimatullah Khan called on Arbab Rahim at the CM's House and apprised him of the ongoing projects. The nazim was directed to ensure completion of all road projects before monsoon.

He also stressed the need for street light system and water supply to city's slums. Dr Arbab said that the coordination between provincial and district governments was vital for the betterment of the masses. - APP/PPI
