ISLAMABAD, July 13: A meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Law, Justice and Human Rights on Tuesday discussed the Illegal Dispossession Bill, 2003 and the Contempt of Court Bill, 2003.
The committee, which met at the Parliament House under the chairmanship of Rai Mansab Ali Khan, deferred the Illegal Dispossession Bill, 2003 for its further revision by the ministry due to certain observations on some of its sections. The committee directed presentation of the amended bill in the next meeting.
The meeting also dilated on the Contempt of Court Bill, 2003 and made a comparative study of the Contempt of Court Act, 1976 and the Contempt of Court Ordinance, 1998 with the bill.
The members, who contributed substantially on each and every clause of the bill, were Nawab Mirza, senior lawyer, Dr Sher Afgan, Zahid Hamid, M.P. Bhandara and Ms Mahreen Anwar Raja.
They raised serious objections to certain clauses, highlighting the conflict with the constitution and the charter of human rights and the challenges of modern times and stressed that it should be modernized. The chairman directed the ministry to present the amended bills along with the old statutes for more comparative study of the bills.
Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights Zahid Raza Hayat Haraj, Nawab Mirza, senior lawyer, Dr Sher Afgan Niazi, Zahid Hamid, Ms Mahreen Anwar Raja, Ch Shahid Akram Bhinder, Muhammad Wasi Zafar, M.P.Bhandara, Sahibzada Mian Jalil Ahmed Sharkpuri and secretary law with the senior officers of the Ministry of Law,Justice and Human Rights attended the meeting.
