KARACHI, May 22: National Transport Ittehad has demanded compensation within a week’s time to the survivors of the rickshaw driver who was killed and the owners whose vehicles were burnt by miscreants on Tuesday night on Nishter Road.

NTI chief, Salim Khan Bangash and others also expressed their grave concern over the killing and the torching of vehicles by miscreants in the presence of the police and rangers who remained silent spectators through it all.

They demanded compensation from the government to the relatives of the deceased rickshaw driver and the owners of burnt vehicles within a week, failing which the transporters would launch a strong protest.

They alleged further that fire tenders were also not allowed by law enforcement agencies and to order registration of an FIR against those involved in arson and murder.

The NTI leaders also pointed out that transporters are not happy at the enhancement in fares, but maintained that there was no way out in the wake of the increase in petroleum prices.

It was also announced that the increased fares would be effective from Thursday.

Meanwhile, leaders of Karachi Transport Ittehad, Syed Irshad Hussain Shah Bukhari, Malik Khalid, Husain Awan and others have also condemned Tuesday’s incident of torching vehicles by miscreants on Nishtar Road in the city.

They demanded of the Sindh government to take notice of the incident and to initiate severe action against those found involved.—PPI
