KARACHI, July 11: The city district government's master plan group of offices (MPGO) has earned a record income of Rs181.318 million against its target of Rs146.530 million for the outgoing fiscal year 2003-04.

It was for the second consecutive year that the MPGO had surpassed its target, and thus become the only department of the CDGK to have this sole honour. Sources in the MPGO said the department despite having financial and administrative constraints not only achieved the target for the financial year 2003-04 but had also earned Rs34.788 million in excess.

Giving details of the month-wise receipts the MPGO had recovered during 2003-04, they said it earned Rs4.2 million in July, 2003; Rs1.81 million in August; Rs1.06 million in September; Rs4.50 million in October; Rs2.88 million in November; Rs1.18 million in December; Rs18.927 million in January 2004; Rs3.06 million in February; Rs53.174 million in March; Rs9.09 million in April; Rs53.340 million in May; and Rs27.99 million in June 2004.

The MPGO's executive district officer, Syed Zaigham Jaffery, who presided over a meeting of officials on Monday, commended their efforts for enabling the department to achieve and exceed the budgetary target set by the CDGK for the fiscal 2003-04.

At the outset, he deplored that though he had been enjoying full support of the city nazim, Niamatullah Khan, who had orders for the resolutions of a number of issues faced by the department such as transport, stationery, computers, office uplift, staff support and necessary equipment, these sanctions were not honoured by the concerned department.

Exhorting officials to continue discharging their duties with a missionary zeal, he directed them to follow all rules and regulations without any fear and favour from any quarter, and never bow before any pressure, whether internal or external especially to those had ruined the city and its built environment by their greed and unscrupulous methods in the past, and still continue to build up pressure on various pretexts.
