MIRPURKHAS, July 6: The Mirpurkhas District Council unanimously approved its annual budget at a meeting here on Tuesday. Speaking on the occasion , District Nazim Pir Shafqat Hussain Shah Jilani regretted that Rs15 million had been earmarked for supply of medicines but as 70 posts of doctors had been lying vacant in the district this amount was unlikely to be utilised.
Mr Jilani said that Rs45 million had been allocated in the budget for development works. He strongly condemned exclusion of UC nazims from the school management committee funds.
The district nazim said that Rs45 million were allocated for the annual development programme, while Rs170 million had been provided for SMC in the district.
He said that priorities fixed by the provincial government had been conveyed to the district government. Mr Jilani said that more money had been allocated for health, education and agriculture sectors so that more facilities could be provided to the people.
The district coordination officer told the meeting that Rs600,000 would be provided to each union council from July 1, to help them in carrying out development works.
Members Zulfikar Junejo, Akbar Dars, Mohammad Umer Bughio, Khuda Bux Jarwar, Mian Saleem, Rahim Bux Makrani, Ali Gohar Shah, Chaudhry Ehsan, Masroor Baig, Mehboob Mari, Iftikhar Ahmed, Lal Malhi, Mir Anwar Talpur, Pir Nazeer Jan Sarhandi, and Malik Liaquat congratulated the district nazim for presenting a surplus budget.
The members presented proposals regarding establishment of a Darul Aman, land for graveyard in the city, fixation of honorarium for councillors, provision of two laser levellers in each taluka of the district for land levelling, fund for the chilly research centre and for provision of instruments for operation theatre at taluka hospital Umerkot.
SECURITY: Strict security arrangements have been adopted for the scheduled visit of Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, prime minister-in-waiting Shaukat Aziz, Chief Minister Arbab Rahim and federal and provincial ministers to the district on Wednesday.
According to official sources, the chief minister along with Shaukat Aziz would arrive at Sindhri Airport near Mirpurkhas on Wednesday morning from where they would leave for Mithi by road along with a caravan.
The sources said that workers and office-bearers of Pakistan Muslim League and Muttahida Qaumi Movement would participate in the caravan in large numbers. According to some reports hundreds of vehicles had been impounded by the police for the caravan.
