LAHORE, July 2: Chief selector Wasim Bari, ignoring a request of skipper Inzamamul Haq, said that the Pakistan team for Asia Cup will be announced next week.
Inzamam, had sought early announcement of the team, most probably by Friday, as he wanted to concentrate on the selected lot instead of all the 26 probables of the camp. But Wasim, while talking to newsmen on Friday said that the committee would announce the team next week.
Inzamam had already faced embarrassing situation when thenew foreign coach Bob Woolmer convinced paceman Shoaib Akhtarto play in the Asia Cup.
Inzamam had announced that he would not take the half-fit Shoaib in the team. Shoaib is not fully fit as he has been playing for Durham County with periods of rest. The chief selector said that all matters regarding selection of the team were discussed with Woolmer and skipper Inzamam.
The former captain and celebrated wicket keeper, who met Woolmer, said that the coach had prepared the data of every player and was planning on long term basis.
