PESHAWAR, July 1: The Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Associations (Fapuasa) has rejected the proposed 'tenure track system', describing it as a conspiracy to create division among teachers.

The Fapuasa executive council said that the proposal had many flaws and added that the move would benefit about 20 per cent of university teachers in the country at the cost of the remaining 80 per cent.

The council members alleged that Higher Education Commission chairman Prof Dr Attaur Rehman had betrayed Fapuasa by backing out of his commitment to hold negotiations on the issue.

Instead of holding talks, they regretted, the chairman had sent for implementation a 'model' version of the proposal to all the state-run universities.

The Fapuasa executive council said that any attempt to introduce the proposed system would be opposed, according to a press release issued here on Thursday.

The meeting was attended, among others,by Prof Dr Arbab Khan Afridi, Prof Dr Arbab Jehangir, Siddique Akbar Khan, Prof Dr Sohail Barkati, Prof Sarwar Nasim and Prof Dr Fazl Qadir, representing the universities of Peshawar, Balochistan and Karachi.
