KARACHI, June 28: Saddar Town Nazim Farooq Faria presented Rs644.44 million town's budget for the fiscal 2004-2005 at the council hall on Monday.

According to the budget document, the town's estimated income is Rs644.44 million while estimated expenditure is Rs637.628 million showing a surplus budget of Rs6.812 million.

The town is expected to receive a total of Rs483 million (74.95 per cent) from the provincial and the city governments while the town is expected to generate Rs8,444,000 (13.10pc) from its own resources and Rs77 million (11.95pc) from capital income.

Out of total estimated expenditure of Rs637.628 million, the town has earmarked Rs222.583 million (34.91pc) for establishment; Rs115.781 million (18.16pc) for contingencies; Rs31.157 million (4.89pc) for repair and maintenance; and Rs268.1064 million (42.05pc) for development.

Addressing the council, Farooq Faria said that the administration would gear up its development activities. During the last fiscal, he said, the Sindh government had provided its share of property tax that enabled the town administration to execute its development works.

Despite the fact that Saddar Town pays major contribution to the government's revenue, the town was not receiving its due share from the government, he said.

"We have been trying to resolve this issue with mutual consent," he said adding that some decisions had also been made in this regard, but the city government had not implemented them so far. He said that efforts were being made to further improve the water supply and sewerage system in major parts of the town, besides improving street roads, footpaths.
