KARACHI, June 28: Three eyewitnesses, on Monday, identified the suspected mastermind of Hyderi mosque blast before a judicial magistrate. The suspect, Gul Hasan alias Ali Haider, was brought to the court in an armoured personnel carrier amidst tight security.
Police produced the suspect in the court of judicial magistrate, Abdul Hameed Buroro, who conducted the identification parade. The three eye-witnesses, head constables Habibullah Niazi and Arshad Ali and a passerby, Syed Mehfooz Ali, identified the suspect among a set of dummies.
According to their statement, they saw Gul Hasan wandering around, in a suspicious manner, after the bomb blast. The investigation officer said that the accused confessed to have prepared the suicide bomber, constable Akbar Niazi, for the task and that Gul Hasan kept a vigilant eye on the bomber until Akbar Niazi entered the Hyderi mosque.
Gul Hasan allegedly told the investigators that he had informed his accomplices about the blast through his mobile phone. Meanwhile, Judge Arshad Noor Khan of anti-terrorism court extended police remand of Gul Hasan till June 30, PPI adds.
Investigation officer sought extension of police remand till July 11 stating that the DNA test of alleged suicide bomber Muhammad Ali Memon was to be conducted. Gul Hasan was arrested by law-enforcement agencies on June 12 from Mithadar area.
He is stated to be one of the accused, who planned the attacks on the two mosques. Police booked him in three cases in respect of killing, explosive and possessing of illegal weapon charges.
According to remand papers, four accused are absconding in the case including Asif Chottu of Lashkar-i-Jhangvi, Abdul Salam alias Wazeer Khan, Qasim alias Fahad and Mufti Ubaid.
It is pertinent to mention that more than 40 people were killed and several others were injured in powerful bomb blasts at Hyderi mosque on May 7, and at Ali Raza Imambargah on May 31.
MOTORCADE ATTACK: Judge Arshad Noor Khan of anti- terrorism court, on Monday, extended police remand of nine activists of Jundullah till July 3 in corps commander's motorcade attack and law enforcers killing cases.
Attaur Rehman alias Ibrahim, Shahzad Ahmed, Yaqoob Saeed, Uzair Ahmed, Shoaib Siddiqui, Danish Inam, Najeebullah, Khurrum Saifullah and Shahzad Mukhtar alias Talha were produced before the court amid tight security.
Investigation officer requested the court for extension of police remand till July 3, as the accused were also remanded in other terrorism cases. They are charged with attacking on motorcade of Corps Commander Lt Gen Ahsan Saleem Hayat in Clifton on June 10 resulting in death of 10 people including six army personnel and three policemen.
They are also accused of killing five policemen at Gulistan-i-Jauhar police station on April 4, besides attack on Ranger's mobile van in Ferozabad on March 19 in which two Ranger personnel were killed.
Police also booked them in explosive and illegal weapon cases as two LMGs, 12 KKs, two G-3 rifles, two 303 rifles, five pistols, six grenades, 15 detonators and live bullets were recovered from their possession after their arrest from Al-Falah and Model Colony on June 13.
