KHAAR, June 24: The Bajaur political administration has increased taxes and fee of permits for the transportation of different items to and from the agency, officials said.
Talking to Dawn on Thursday, the officials said that the political authorities had taken this decision for generating more revenue during the next fiscal year.
According to the notification, the tax on the movement of raw marble from the agency has been increased from Rs500 to Rs800 per truck, while a double-axle truck would pay Rs1,000 instead of Rs700.
The new tax schedule would be effective from July 1, 2004. The tax on the transportation of raw marble from the agency to other parts of the country has been increased from Rs10,000 to Rs15,000 per truck, while the tax on the export of finished marble from the agency to other areas has been raised from Rs20,000 to Rs24,000 per truck.
On the transportation of cattle from the agency to Afghanistan, the tax has been increased from Rs30,000 to Rs55,000 per truck. The permit rate on the import of timber from Afghanistan to the agency has been raised from Rs60,000 to Rs72,000 per truck.
A 100 per cent increase has been made in the tax on the export of eucalyptus trees from the agency to Afghanistan. It has been raised from Rs30,000 to Rs60,000 per truck.
The tax on the export of fertilizer and sugar from the agency to Afghanistan has also been increased from Rs6 to Rs8 per bag and from Rs15 to Rs25 per bag, respectively. Similarly, taxes on the export of edibles and other items of daily-use from the agency to Afghanistan have been increased by 10pc to 30pc.
The political administration also raised the domicile certificate fee from Rs200 to Rs250. An official said that the decision would generate between 15pc and 25pc more revenue per month. He said that with the increase in the tax schedule the agency's monthly income would go up from Rs13 million to Rs18 million
