KARACHI, June 23: Two different parties have approached the Defence Housing Authority as claimants for the wreckage and other belongings of dhow, which washed ashore on Tuesday at the Sea View beach.

According to DHA sources, two different callers contacted the authority staff introducing themselves as owner of the dhow on Wednesday. They claimed that they should be given the wreckage and other cargo of the ship, which was left in the sea after rescue of the crew a couple of days back. However, the claimants were asked to bring documents supportive to their claims and meet DHA administrator on Thursday.

Sources said that fuel of the dhow had already been lost at the beach, its littered cargo comprising hay bales and others were least worthy. But, they added, the big wood logs of the small sea launcher were still worthy.

The Maritime Security Agency is firm that the sunken dhow, which floated to the Sea View in pieces on Tuesday, was no other than the Ghana-registered Al Garhoud. However, sources in the maritime circle maintained that wreckage of two boats reached the beach on Tuesday.

A source believed that one of the two boats, used for fishing in shallow waters, had probably over turned due to rough seas. Such developments were not so unusual for fishing boats, the source maintained adding that most of such incidents go unreported as the boarding persons managed to survive.

BEACH CLEANING: The Defence Housing Authority administrator, Brig Maqsood Hussain, has said that the DHA staff continued their work on Wednesday to clean the beach affected by the dhow wreckage. Talking to Dawn, Brig Maqsood Hussain said that some wreckage had been removed while the remains were likely to be removed within a couple of days.
