Published June 23, 2004

SUKKUR, June 22: Taking a serious notice of media reports regarding alleged molestation of juvenile prisoners in Central Prison-II Sukkur, district Nazim Syed Nasir Hussain Shah visited the jail on Tuesday to ascertain the facts.

The nazim went round different wards and recorded the statements of juvenile prisoners who stated that neither such a incident had occurred nor had they made any complaint to any one in this regard.

They further stated that a constable Imdad Mahar had got their thumb impressions affixed on a plain paper some time back and after that they came to know about statements in the press about their molestation.

The nazim directed Jail Superintendent Mirza Shuja Haider to transfer the constable to some other ward so as to avoid such mischief in future. The jail superintendent on the occasion informed the nazim about shortage of medicine in the jail and requested him to release necessary amount from the Zakat fund.

The nazim asked the executive district officer (health) to ensure provision of medicines as per requirement of the jail. He also assured the officials about release of Zakat fund for the jail.
