KARACHI, June 22: A high-level meeting, chaired by Chief Secretary Dr Mutawakkal Kazi, on Tuesday reviewed the Police Order-2002 and considered related matters to bring them in conformity with rules and regulations.

In this regard, a six-member committee was formed to ascertain the operational requirements. The committee, which would be headed by Secretary General Administration Mumtazur Rehman, would be comprised members from finance, police, law, services and home departments.

It was decided that the committee would submit the draft of reforms within a week in the light of rules and regulations for approval at the higher level. Chief Secretary Dr Mutawakkal Kazi called for effective formulation of rules of business keeping the rules and regulations in view.

He said that in the delegation of powers and in order to make administrative and financial procedures effective, the legal identity should be highlighted at SHO, TPO, DPO, RPO and PPO levels.

At the meeting, Secretary Finance Israr Hussain Malik suggested that vacant posts for provincial and district public safety commissions could be filled with the staff available from surplus pool as per laid down rules and regulations.

Secretary Services Hashim Leghari stressed on close liaison between general administration and coordination, law and other related departments for a coordinated legislation for amendments in Police Order 2002.The IG highlighted the administrative and accountable matters. -APP
