KARACHI, June 18: The judicial magistrate, East, Ms Alia Anver, granted bail to head moharrar of Korangi Industrial Area police station in the sum of Rs50,000.

Mohammed Aslam was booked and arrested by the Baloch Colony police for riding in a stolen car, which had different registration number plates on front and rear of the vehicle. He was represented by Javed Chatari, advocate.

SECTARIAN MURDER: An anti-terrorism court adjourned on Friday the hearing of a sectarian murder case against two workers of the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi after the statements of a prosecution witness.

The LJ men - Ataullah and Mohammed Azam - are being prosecuted for killing Dr. Raza Peerani on June 26, 2003 in Soldier Bazaar. After leaving his clinic, the doctor was getting into his car when the accused on a motorbike shot at him.

Special public prosecutor Mazhar Qayyum examined Dr. Shamim, the medico-legal officer who had conducted autopsy on the body. Defence counsel M. R. Syed also cross-examined the prosecution witness.

The judge fixed June 21 for the next hearing and ordered the prosecution to produce further evidence in the case. The same court recorded the statement of three prosecution witnesses in another sectarian murder case against the two workers of the Lashkar-i-Jhangvi.

The case pertained to the killing of Syed Athar Hussain Rizvi on May 3, 2001 within the limits of the Korangi Industrial Area. The PWs - sub-inspector Saeed Ghani, PC Farhat Abbas and HC Noor Mohammed - were also cross-examined by the defence counsel.

The judge fixed Saturday for recording the statements of further prosecution witnesses.
