LAHORE, May, 21: Inflow in rivers went up to 236,900 cusecs on Tuesday with Tarbela lake going 10 feet above the dead level for the first time in the current Kharif season.

River Indus was flowing at 98,600 cusecs, Jhelum at Mangla at 53,100 cusecs, Chenab at Marala at 45,200 cusecs and Kabul at Nowshera at 40,000 cusecs. Out of total 236,900 cusecs, around 48,600 cusecs was stored in different storages and the rest released for irrigation purposes.

The Punjab continued to store maximum water in Mangla lake with releasing only 20,000 cusecs against inflow of 53,100 cusecs. The Mangla filling pattern demands maximum storage before June 20 when snow at low hills, forming catchment area of the Mangla lake, melts completely.

According to the barrage situation, Jinnah received 130,100 cusecs and released 122,100 cusecs, Chashma 124,300 and 124,300 cusecs, Taunsa 102,100 and 79,600, Guddu 38,100 and 30,700 cusecs, Sukkur 24,700 and 6,300, and all the 4,100 cusecs were stored in Kotri.

The Punjab canals from the Indus arm also showed a healthy improvement with Dera Ghazi Khan canal flowing at 4,000 cusecs, Muzaffargrah canal at 6,500 and Taunsa-Panjnad Link Canal at 12,000, Chashma-Jhelum Link Canal at 5,000 and the CRBC at 5,000 cusecs.
