MULTAN, June 15: The district police are interrogating three Nigerians, who were arrested on Monday night for having suspicious travel documents.

The Nigerians were picked up by the Boharr Gate police from a local hotel on the complaint of Rana Abdul Khalid, who deals in motorcycles at Dera Adda Chowk.

The complainant had accused the foreigners of swindling him. Reports said the Nigerians had introduced themselves to Khalid as international businessmen, who were in search of potential partners in Pakistan for their flourishing business in Switzerland.

Khalid told police that he lent Rs100,000 to the foreigners, who claimed that they had to get a consignment cleared from a goods company. Later, they applied some chemical on two blank papers and converted the pieces of paper into greenbacks (dollars).

This made them suspicious and Khalid informed the police. They recovered some fake documents of the UNHCR from their possession. A handout released from the Multan DPO office, however, stated that the Nigerians had no links with any of the international militant groups and they were simply international swindlers.

When talked, DPO Hamid Mukhtar Gondal said the arrested men had insufficient documents to travel to Pakistan. They might be sent to Lahore for further interrogation. He said the foreigners staying in the country illegally were investigated at the Punjab police headquarters in Lahore.
