ISLAMABAD, May 21: In view of uncertain data availability from India, the General Headquarters has convened a top level meeting here on Wednesday to finalise precautionary measures for upcoming flood season, official sources told Dawn.

Secretary and senior officials of water and power ministry, Wapda officials, chairman and senior officials of Federal Flood Commission and meteorological office, provincial irrigation secretaries and officials of engineer branch would attend the meeting.

Irrigation departments of provincial governments, water wing of Wapda and Federal Flood Commission would submit their respective reports on pre-flood season preparations. The meeting will also review security arrangements for water reservoirs and other related sensitive installations to avoid any enemy threat.

The sources said there was no official word on the prospects of proposed May 29-30 meeting of permanent Indus Water Commission in India but the event was uncertain in the prevailing war-like situation.

The meeting would assign various flood alert and protection responsibilities to various provincial and federal agencies.
