KARACHI, June 13: Some members of the national and provincial assemblies, belonging to the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA), have criticized the contradictions in the statements made by Altaf Hussein and Governor Ishratul Ibad on the possibility of an army operation in Karachi.
The chief of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement had reportedly said that an operation against his party workers was imminent. The governor of Sindh, on the other hand, said no such operation was likely.
"Which of the two statements is the correct one?" asked the MNAs and MPAs. "Has the governor gone to London to tell Mr Hussein that no operation is in the offing or just to get away from Karachi?" they asked.
Meanwhile, a protest rally was organized on Sunday at the Karachi Press Club on Sunday against escalating prices and worsening law and order situation. The authorities had failed utterly in providing relief to the people, said the MMA leaders who took part in the rally.
The people who spoke on the occasion included Asadullah Bhutto, Hafiz Muhammad Taqi, Sheikh Rafiq Ahmed, Muhammad Younus Barai and Muhammad Muslim.
