Rs607m for narcotics control

ISLAMABAD, June 13: The government has allocated Rs607.33 million for narcotics control for the fiscal year 2004-05.

The budget document said that of the allocation Rs440.354 million would be spent on administrative affairs of the narcotics control division and Rs166.985 million for development projects under the public sector development programme.

The allocation for non-development expenses has been increased by 16 per cent (Rs61.237 million) as compared to the current fiscal year.Under the PSDP, Rs20.92 million has been allocated to stop poppy cultivation in the Mohmand Agency and Rs49 million in the Bajaur Agency with the assistance of the USAID and an allocation of Rs61.78 million has been made for the Khyber Area Development Project.

An amount of Rs2.7 million would be spent on reorganization of the special development unit in collaboration with the United Nations Drug Control Programme, Rs10 million would be utilized for a non-government organizations support programme for treatment and rehabilitation of addicts, Rs8 million on the model addiction treatment and rehabilitation centre in Islamabad, Rs8 million would be provided to the model addiction treatment and rehabilitation centre in Quetta, Rs1.085 million would be spent on addressing social, economic and psychological factors responsible for addiction in women and Rs3 million has been allocated for focused drug abuse prevention for high risk and marginalized groups.
