WASHINGTON, June 10: The United States acknowledged Thursday that it had used incomplete and incorrect data in its "Patterns of Global Terrorism" report, allowing that acts of terror had risen instead of declining , but insisting it was an unintentional foulup.

"The data that we published in the report on April 29th was compiled by the Terrorist Threat Integration Center, which was established in January 2003. It includes elements from the CIA, the FBI, Departments of Homeland Security and Defense," State Department spokesman Richard Boucher told reporters.

But "based on our review subsequently to all this coming to light, we determined that the data in the report are incomplete and in some cases incorrect," he said. The data had shown acts of terror and related deaths easing, positive political news for President Bush during the re-election campaign. -AFP
